Why you'd want to live in Summerville
In the heart of Lowcountry and shared by three counties (Dorchester, Berkeley, and Charleston) lies Summerville, a community that has been rapidly growing in the past few decades. In the 1970s, Summerville had only about 6,000 residents, but that number rose to more than 40,000 residents in 2019. Known as “the Lakewood of the south,” this charming area of South Carolina has attracted wealthy seniors since the 1800s. It has always been a great area to get away from the coastal heat while still living in a waterfront neighborhood. The turpentine scent coming from the pine trees in the area was even believed to have lung healing powers.
